Côte du Rhône rosé

Considering the sun has made an appearance this week, my taste buds were tingling for a good refreshing glass of rosé. After wandering around Tesco on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I was intrigued to discover a Côtes du Rhône (a wine variety I’ve always associated with red) rose for just £4.59 a bottle. This particular wine, Tesco informs me, is from the Grenache grape, and promises to give off ‘aromas of red fruits, candies and notes of citrus’.

I can, upon tasting this wine and asking for second and third opinions from my mother and boyfriend, confirm that it is incredibly disappointing. Whilst the colour of this wine is a beautiful pinky orange, the scent is rather flat. Whilst the taste has subtle (perhaps too much so) notes of strawberry, the aftertaste is somewhat flabby and alcoholic (at 13% this is no surprise!)

Even at less than £5 a bottle, I would not recommend this wine…

I’m still on the look out for a versatile summer rose- all recommendations welcome!
