Bravas Tapas Fantasticas

I know the sun seems like a distant memory but in the hope that it may soon return, you must head down to St Katharine Docks to sample some delicious dishes from (relatively) new tapas restaurant, Bravas Tapas. That’s exactly what I did on a sunny evening last week…

With the light streaming through the windows and the boats docked in the background, my friend and I could have easily been sitting in a restaurant in Puerto Banús rather than just a stone’s throw from Tower Bridge. While for some Londoners the thought of venturing that far east might be a turn off, the incredible food is well worth the trip on the DLR and/or District line!

At Bravas Tapas you can make like the Spanish and perch yourself at the bar with a glass of Rioja as you watch the expert chefs whip up some tasty morsels including Morcillas de Burgos Sliders, spinach croquetas and my personal favourite of the evening – oyster fritura.

If you head there before 16th June, you can also enjoy a free tapa when you order a glass of Rioja as part of the Taste Tapas Fantasticas promotion in the run up to the returning Rioja Tapas Fantasticas festival this summer. What’s not to love?!

Mmmm pizza

My other half is addicted to pizza. If he could eat it three times a day, everyday, he would! On a mission to make the doughy, cheesy, meat feasts he chows down on just a little healthier, on Saturday night we decided to make our own.

Using this pizza dough recipe from Jamie Oliver plus an assembly line of mozzarella, tomatoes, artichokes, peppers, red onion, prosciutto, anchovies… and a fan oven set to 200°c, we were well away!

To drink we shared a bottle of warming Torretta Di Mondelli Nero D’Avola – medium-bodied with dark cherry flavours and a hint of liquorice, this is one good value wine. It won’t knock your socks off but, at £5.17 from Sainsbury’s, this easy-going red is ideal for ad hoc pizza-making parties!
